New Kids On The Block Tour

I went to see NKOTB last night with my friend…wow…did we have fun!!! It was one of the best concerts I have seen.  They were just so entertaining.  They played for over two hours and were on fire right from the start.  They played all my favourite songs, new and old.  I was so happy that Joey sang Please Don’t Go Girl and he still sounded wonderful.  He also sang Single, and rocked it in a gold lame shirt.  Not many men could pull that off.  He did this amazing dance with a female dancer during Twisted.  It was hot!!

Donnie didn’t disappoint, with awesome renditions of Hanging Tough and Games, and lots of fun crowd interaction.  My personal favourite was when he said they were going to make Ottawa HOT-tawa.  I giggled quite a bit over that one.

Jordan came out at the beginning of his solo song in this billowy white shirt with a massive fan on him, and then in one swift movement popped it open so it flew behind him – it was possibly the cheesiest moment EVER.  Of course, the crowd all screamed and giggled like crazy.

Another great moment at the beginning of the show was when Joey was up on a riser at the side of the stage and it was really dark, so he yelled out in the middle of the song, “Can I get a spotlight over here” and when no spotlight came, “$20 for a spotlight over here”, and then finally it came and he was so happy.  It was very fun.  All the chatting with the crowd was really fun and I enjoyed hearing their Boston accents so much.  It really was such a fun night.  I am already plotting when I can see them next.

A big shout out to the Jabbawockees who opened for them…they were phenomenal – I just love to watch them dance.  Of course their highlight was the dance they did to the NKOTB song :-)

Running Injury Update

Last week I hurt my foot after my long run – it seemed to be some kind of stress injury as it only started to hurt after the run.  I tried to run on it again on Monday and had to stop pretty quickly.  After that, I tried walking the dog every day to gauge how the foot felt.  Tuesday it hurt so much I had to come back after just 15 minutes.  Wednesday I was able to go 20 minutes.  Thursday I was able to do the whole walk with no pain.  I was about to jump back into my running schedule but my husband talked me into waiting a few days to make sure it was fully healed.  So today I picked up my routine and did a short 3.2km run…and my foot felt great!  No pain!  Woohoo!  So now I can continue with my half marathon training…

Twilight on DVD

I pre-ordered my copy of Twilight on Blu-ray, and it surprised me by arriving two days earlier than estimated, Monday.  I had tons of things to do after work, but of course I dropped everything and had to watch it immediately.  I still love the movie, love Edward, love the story.  The scene where Edward jumps on Bella’s truck wearing that beautiful blue jacket…Robert Pattinson just looks edible.   I was so happy to be able to stop/rewind/play the kiss scene 10 times in a row.  And how fun are the deleted scenes??  We even get an added kiss scene in them, however it is not as good as the one in the movie.  Anyhow, sigh, love that movie, will definitely watch it again this weekend.  Can’t wait for New Moon!

Kiss Me Mascara

I use this awesome mascara call Kiss Me made by Blinc.  It is a really cool formula that creates little tubes around each lash, so it never smudges and is completely tear-proof.  It also comes off really easily with just warm water and a bit of rubbing.

The even better thing about this mascara is it comes in terrifically vivid versions of blue, green and purple, as well as the standard black and brown.

It is a bit pricey ($26.50 cdn, $24 US) but I think it is totally worth it.  I found a great website to order it from in Canada – check it out and order more than one tube  for free shipping.   Enjoy!

Running Injury – part 2

I tried to run last night to see if the pain in my foot would either go away, or hold off enough to let me get a run in.  I started out the run at a nice even pace and was fine for the first 7 minutes.  Then I started to feel a twinge, but was able to keep going.  After another 5 minutes I was in a lot of pain, but decided to try to keep going until I had been running for 15 minutes.  Unfortunately one more minute was all I could do as I started to worry that I was making it worse, and it just hurt so much.  So now I am going to take a few days off running and see if it repairs itself.  If not, I will have to see a doctor next week.  Sigh…my training was going so well!

Running Injury

I went for a great 7 mile (11.2 km) run on Saturday. It was sunny, I was happy, the run felt great. I pushed a bit for the last mile or so, trying to better my time. I felt like I had enough energy left as it was a nice easy run to give it a good sprint at the end. I was so happy with my time and how great I felt after the run was done. I came home, took a shower and my husband and I took the dog for an hour long walk. Well at the end of the walk the outside of my left foot started to seriously hurt. By the afternoon I was limping. When I am not putting any pressure on it, the foot feels fine, normal. As soon as I stand on it there is a bit of pain. But when I walk on it or put all my weight on the foot, it hurts quite a lot, to the point where I need to stop walking. It has improved a bit since Saturday, but is still not better. I am not sure if it is a better idea to try to run a short easy run today to try to stretch it out or if I should stay off it for a few more days until I feel better. I googled running foot injuries and couldn’t find any injuries that sounded like mine – so if anyone out there has any suggestions or info, please let me know.

Movies

We had a disappointing weekend at the movies.  Saturday, we went to see Duplicity with another couple.  This is the new movie with Clive Owen and Julia Roberts.  I love both of them and the premise looked great…so it was pretty disappointing when it turned out to be quite boring and not great.  It was okay, it has some pretty good plot twists, but overall it is definitely a renter.  And Clive Owen has gotten disturbingly skinny.  There is one scene where he is almost emaciated…wonder what is up with that?

Last night we went to see The Watchmen.  I didn’t have high hopes for this one but my husband really wanted to see it and I made him sit through Duplicity the day before so I pretty much had to go.  It was sooooooooooo long.  It is kind of ridiculous how long it is.  It is just under 3 hours long.  I know this because I was looking at my watch about every 10 seconds for the entire movie.  Nothing really happens for the whole movie and I am not completely sure why they even felt they had to tell this story.   It is long, complicated and have I mentioned BORING???  The even weirder thing is I have no idea what audience they were trying to target.  It is rated 18 years and older, so teenaged boys can’t see it and they are who I would think would want to see it.  Any way, I wouldn’t even rent this one…

March Break

This week is March Break for my children and wow are they having a great time.  For the first time that I can remember the weather has been INCREDIBLE all week.  It has been sunny and really warm each day – up to 14 degrees celsius yesterday.  That is just unheard of for March weather around here.

Because of this fabulous weather my kids are having what I think of as a throw back vacation.  Every day they are getting up early and taking the dog for a really long walk on a nature trail near our house.  Then they are spending the rest of the day riding their bikes, going to the park, and playing with all the other kids on our street.

Those are the activities I remember doing as a child, and it seems like no one does them anymore as there just isn’t time in our crazy scheduled life.  How nice for the kids to experience this for a whole week.  They are loving every minute of it!!  Yea for nice weather on March Break!

So sad

I just heard the news about Natasha Richardson.  What incredibly sad news!   My heart goes out to her family and loved ones.  I can’t even imagine the pain they are in right now.  I hope she pulls through and recovers from this serious injury.

I pledge to wear a helmet next time I go skiing.  I always make my children wear helmets when biking, skating etc…but I am usually not wearing one myself.  I promise from now on I will take the extra two minutes and put my helmet on too.

Update March 19 – Sadly, Natasha did not make it and has passed away.  My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones.

Another Airedale Tale

Our dog, Gus, has become increasingly destructive in our backyard.  He is 15 months old now, and pretty well trained inside.  He gets a lot of exercise, at least one hour a day, and usually at least 2 hours on weekends.

Last summer, he dug a few holes in our backyard and munched a few things in our garden.  But overall, for our first summer with a puppy, the damage was way less than we expected.

Alas it is only mid-March and he is already more than making up for lost time.  He was outside for I think 7 seconds last night and dug a hole that almost goes to China.  Last week, left unattended for a bit, he stripped off all the bark from one side of a tree.  We don’t think the tree will make it.  Over the last couple of months he has single handedly trimmed back all of our garden plants, some seem to have disappeared completely.

We are now trying out some different things to curb the destructiveness.  We are only allowing him to be out in the backyard when supervised.  We are giving him more chew toys to play with outside.  We are looking for something to protect our tree trunks (let me know if you know of anything good!).  We are also planning to put a little fence around our garden this summer so that we can hopefully rebuild a bit.  I hope all this works…
