prolonged vacation
I am in between jobs right now and it really is the weirdest thing. A month ago I was the victim of workforce management measures as my former company called it. I love the names they come up with! I know so many people right now in the same position as I am.
It has been really hard in some ways. Such a blow to the ego! and terrifying! What if nobody else wants me? I know I am good at what I do but in this economy times are just plain tough.
The weird part is how much fun I am managing to have while I am off. Yesterday I sat outside on my deck and just enjoyed the sun and a good book with my dog. I am walking the dog a lot, enjoying the beautiful weather, going to see daytime movies, reading as much as I want. It is sooo nice not working and having lots of time to get everything done.
So basically I am conflicted…terrified yet enjoying myself immensely.

Half Marathon
So the big race is this Sunday. I am doing my last training run this morning and am debating what to do. I was going to run 18km this past weekend but was advised to cut it back to 12km instead. Not being one to argue about running more EVER, I was happy to oblige. Tuesday I ran 3.2km and today I am debating between 4 and 5km. Then just resting up for the big race. I am feeling really good about it, excited, ready. I pick up my race kit tomorrow. I am starting to get the pre-race butterflies, but being that it is my second half marathon at the very least I know I can complete it. And that is really my goal. Completing it in 2:20 would be even more exciting, but as long as I beat last year’s time of 2:32 I will be thrilled. Wish me luck!

Holiday Long Weekend
I love a nice long weekend. This one is extra long because the kids and I had Friday off as well. We were able to fit in an overnight trip to Montreal and still get a couple of days at home with no activities. Sheer perfection! I watched the season finales of Lost and Grey’s Anatomy, had a wonderful steak dinner with my family, a couple of great visits with friends…I feel like a new person.

Armored/Matt Dillon
OMG! Yesterday on cheapie movie Tuesday ($9 for a ticket, drink and popcorn) we went to see Obsessed. Seriously a bad movie. Seriously bad. So bad we almost left early.
But…the super bright side was we saw a preview for Matt Dillon’s new film – Armored. Wow!! It looks so good and more importantly Matt looks so good. He is absolutely my favourite actor ever and I am so happy when he does a main stream movie that I actually get to see in the theatre. I am beyond excited about this one as it looks amazing and has a pretty great cast including Jean Reno, Laurence Fishburne and even Milo Ventimiglia…It comes out in September – I cannot wait!

sTori Telling
I just finished reading Tori Spelling’s first book. I was always a Tori fan – on 90210 Donna was always my favourite. I used to try to emulate her hair styles – not very successfully. I watched a few of her many TV movies, giggled at her cameo in Scream and loved her shows So NoTORIous and Tori and Dean – Inn Love.
I really enjoyed her book – her writing style is very friendly and easy to read and it was so fun to hear her side of all the wild tabloid reports over the years. I felt very sad about how she portrayed her childhood and also about her previous relationships with men. It is so nice to see that she is finally happy, and a mom herself. I hear her new book Mommyhood is equally fun so I guess that is next on my reading list

17 Again and Wolverine
17 Again
A girlfriend took me to see this movie yesterday as a post birthday treat. We didn’t realize it was a Tuesday, and it was a matinee, so we got our tickets, popcorn and a drink for $9!! Woohoo! And what a fun movie. Was it life changing? No. It was just great light hearted fluff…Matthew Perry and Zac Ephron were both super fun, and the supporting cast was great too. It was a delightful film, but the subject matter was a bit old for young ones…so leave your kids at home.
Wolverine
I went to see Wolverine with my husband this weekend and we loved it! It was just the way an action film is supposed to be. It was super fast paced and short and good. Hugh Jackman was amazing, and Wolverine remains my favourite XMen guy. Gambit (my fave Big Tim) was just so amazing, I am hoping above all hopes that he gets his own film. He is just so pretty and hot. Have I mentioned I love Taylor Kitsch? Ryan Reynolds was also great, as was Liev Schreiber. The big question everyone had when they left the movie though, was what happened to Patrick Stewart’s face?

My Puppy
We just found out our Airedale Terrier puppy has epilepsy…a week and a half ago he had two seizures in two days. We didn’t realize they were seizures at the time, it almost seemed like he had gone mad or something. He just suddenly started this horrible barking, it sounded pained, and hoarse, gutteral. At the same time he went absolutely berserk, tearing around the house in circles, over and over. There was no calming him or even touching him. He finally calmed down and was completely disoriented and confused and lethargic.
We brought him to the vet who explained that he had experienced two mild seizures. We did a blood screen to rule out any other illnesses or causes for the seizures and then our vet advised us to wait and see what happened next.
Well yesterday he had another seizure, this one worst than the other two, with him voiding his bowels on the floor and foaming at the mouth as well. We called the vet again and he prescribed a medication for him that should make the seizures less frequent, and severe. We just feel so sad for our puppy who was so scared and terrified while the seizures were happening. Looking on the bright side, it could be worse so at least he can still lead a nice happy life most of the time. We love our pup! And of course, now we need to start researching canine epilepsy…so if anyone knows anything please pass it along.
