200th Post
Wow and here we are at my 200th post! I would have hit this one a lot sooner if I hadn’t been such a lousy blogger for the last couple of months. Well, in the tradition of my 100th post here are 10 more things you may not know about me:
1- I like doing dishes more than any other chore around the house. It is very satisfying! You invest a bit of time and you have clean dishes. Unlike other tasks like dusting where it never seems to look like you did anything. And funnily enough I HATE drying them.
2 – I hate white chocolate. I just don’t understand it – so yucky!
3 – While I am at it, I also hate coconut. I cannot think of a worst texture to put in my mouth. Coconut macaroons are the absolute yuckiest dessert on earth.
4 – I really want to like sushi. So much so, that my husband and I have gone out to eat it several times. I really think I should like it! I love fish and seafood. Yet I cannot stomach it. I do intend to keep trying though. He doesn’t like it either.
5 – I am an obsessive planner. I am planning all the time. I have a spreadsheet for the summer, laying out where we will be and what we will be doing each day. My husband sometimes asks me to just please turn my brain off for a bit.
6 – I love chocolate malt balls. I have ever since I was a kid. When Starbucks had the chocolate malt frappuccino I drank one almost every day. It was the best drink they EVER had on their menu. I was so saddened when they got rid of it. Although, my waistline thanks them.
7 – I did an adult jazz class once. It was really fun but I was really awful. I have never since screwed up the courage to try it again.
8 – I don’t do basements. I have been afraid of going into the basement ever since I was a little kid. I still hate it. Our home office is in the basement and this could explain the lack of postings over the last couple of months. I really need a laptop
9 – I write out to-do lists pretty much every day, and sometimes I add things on to the list just so that I can cross them off. Like today, after I finished my run, I wrote it on the list and crossed it off. It makes me feel better
10 – In my head, I look just like Grace Kelly. When I shop for clothes I always love the stuff that would look perfect on Grace Kelly. In reality I am nowhere near her body type or style…so the changing room is sometimes quite hysterical. I am not saying I am not happy with how I look, because I am quite comfortable and confident. It is just still constantly a surprise to me that I am not 5′9 and blond and willowy.

Movie Round-up
Night at the Museum 2 – I brought the kids to see this today because it was cheap day at the theatre and we all giggled when we saw the first one. This one was also fun, and the kids and I all laughed. I can’t remember the first one well enough to say if it was funnier or even as funny, but this one stood well on its own. Amy Adams was a welcome addition, as was Hank Azaria. Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson and Robin Williams remain terrific!
The Proposal – I saw this with a girlfriend last night. We had seen the preview a bunch of times and were dying for it to come out. It did not disappoint. It was very fun and had a great end, with some very comic and heart warming scenes. My only complaint is how thin Sandra Bullock has gotten! I was shocked at just how bony she is…Sandra, please start eating again. She used to be so beautiful…Ryan Reynolds is still very hot and very fun. Mary Steenburgen is aging beautifully and just looks fantastic

Hawthorne
Hawthorne is a new series that premiered this week on TNT, starring Jada Pinkett Smith (as the title character, Christine Hawthorne) and Michael Vartan (Dr Wakefield). Welcome back Michael (swoon)! One of my fave tv actors since his fabulous stint as Vaughn on Alias, I am so happy to see him back on tv. Hawthorne got really good buzz before it started, and I was quite excited to see the premiere. I watched it last night (it aired on Tuesday) and it was reallly good! Vartan’s role wasn’t huge in the premiere but hopefully he will be on more in future episodes. He still looks yummy and his character is adorable…he even eats lollipops – what else do you need? Jada’s character is super tough, but she was really good and I look forward to seeing her personality developed more. Jada is the head nurse at the hospital, and Vartan is the head doctor…perhaps a romance is in their future? I will have to keep watching to see…

end of the school year
There is something absolutely magical about the end of each school year. I can vividly remember anticipating the last day of school with every fibre of my being…the miserable cold winter giving way to hot scorching days, and still being stuck in school. And then the last couple of weeks filled with fun end of year trips, and performances, and happy times in class. Saying goodbye to all my school friends for the summer…
Now I see my children living their last week of the school year. Each day they count down how many days are left. They have brought home tons of completed school work that we will carefully file away to look at many years from now. They are giddy with glee at fun hair day tomorrow! and only HALF a day on Friday – then freedom!!!

The Hangover
I was lucky to receive tickets to see the movie premiere of The Hangover. My husband and I were able to get a babysitter and head downtown to see the movie. I had seen a preview a few weeks earlier and thought it looked pretty funny, but was worried it might be too guy humour focussed for me to enjoy it.
The first scene of the movie is absolutely hysterical and from there it is all pretty funny. There were maybe one or two scenes that were a bit too gross for me, but otherwise I laughed out loud A LOT during the film. My husband also loved it. Bradley Cooper is so hot (as usual) and can totally hold his own in this role. He is very funny, and does a great job playing the cynical guy’s guy of the cast. Justin Bartha and Ed Helms are also very funny, but Zach Galifianakis is ridiculously silly and brings the comedy of the film up a whole level. All in all, you need to see this movie!

Angels and Demons
Let me start off by saying I enjoyed The Da Vinci Code movie. I had read the book and apart from Tom Hanks’ hair which pretty much drove me wacko for the whole film, I loved it. I also read Angels and Demons and was excited to see the movie version. The first thing that thrilled me was that Tom Hanks’ character had better hair, it was quite normal in fact. I guess I am not the only one who thought his hair was actually distracting in the first movie. Overall though, the movie was great. It was better than the first one, a lot easier to follow even if you hadn’t read the book. The special effects were great and it was filmed more like a real action flick. It has lots of plot twists and a tremendous cast. Go see it!

2:20:50
I ran my half-marathon last weekend and my goal time was 2 hours and 20 minutes and miraculously I came in at 2:20:50. Woohoo! Mad applause all around. I felt pretty good going into the race, and was happy to have a sunny day. I tried to keep to my pace right from the start, and did pretty well. It ended up being quite a bit hotter than I had expected, but thankfully I was in shorts and a t-shirt so I didn’t roast. I had also slathered myself in sunscreen with great foresight
. Last year I didn’t remember and came home quite pink. My first 10 km were great and I was excited about staying on my goal time. The thing I noticed about this year’s race was it was a lot more crowded. I guess that was because I was running a bit faster so I was more in the middle of the pack. That had advantages in that there was a lot to look at and lots of people to motivate me to keep going. At the same time it meant a lot of weaving in and out of other runners and at some points having to slow down as I just couldn’t get past right away. I was feeling pretty good until the last 2 kilometres when I just started to feel drained. It was really hot, I don’t think I ate enough sport beans and I was just feeling beat up. I knew I had to keep going, so I did, but at the same time I didn’t have that final burst of speed I like to give at the end. So I made my goal time (just!) and shaved 12 minutes off my last half marathon time, which was wonderful, but next time I want to do even better and come in at 2:15 – I know I can do it!
