The Ugly Truth

Right before I went to see this movie my next door neighbour told me she hated it so much and thought it was one of the worst movies she had ever seen.  I immediately went onto Rotten Tomatoes and it only got a 15% rating there.  I was very worried.  We almost pulled out and went to see something else.

But it was only 97 minutes long and I really wanted to see it so we went ahead and got our tickets.  And to tell the ugly truth :-) I liked it.  There were quite a few very funny parts that had me laughing out loud.  Yes it was predictable, and yes it was very crude in parts, but the funny stuff outweighed it.  I found Katherine Heigl to be kind of wooden and stiff in the role, which was surprising as I usually think she is great.  Gerard Butler was great.  The wardrobe for Katherine’s character was awful…so many bad outfits.  I think they must have been mad at her.

So, if you are in the mood for a pretty funny movie, set your expectations low and go check it out.  I think you will be amused.

Twilight – again

I got a beautiful collector’s edition copy of Twilight and was waiting for the right moment to re-read it.  I watched the movie yet again last week and afterwards just had to read the book.  I am such a book person and this copy is the really nice one with uneven pages, and a pretty bookmark and it just smells good. I curled up in bed and read a few chapters.  I had forgotten how much I loved the story and the character development.  So much of that is lost in the movie it is really great to fall in love with the book again.  So to all you Twilighters out there – re-read!  It is so wonderful.

Cleaning Binge

Spring has come a little late to our house (I blame it on the crappy summer weather – makes me think it is still Spring with all this rain).  I am suddenly (today) on a major cleaning binge.  I have finally cleaned out our front hall closet.  It has been a few years since I have been saying I really need to clean out our front hall closet…finally it is done!  I am embarrassed at some of the things I found in there…things we have been looking for.  Oh well!

The other thing I cleaned out today were all the old textbooks from our bookshelves.  We had a ton of them.  I am not sure what to do with them now…I am trying to find somewhere to donate them…so if anyone knows of anywhere that takes old textbooks, please post in the comments section.  Now, on to my next cleaning task!

Harry Potter 6

I went to see Harry Potter 6 last night and just gushy loved it.  It was so true to the book.  I loved the way they showed the evil flying all over London at the beginning of the movie and how they painted the air of fear.  I loved seeing how the cast had grown since the last movie and how tall some of them were getting (Neville!).  Draco looks just malevolant now, he has really grown well into his character.  Harry, Ron and Hermione are as always, perfectly cast.  I jumped ten feet high at one point even after having read the book several times and knowing exactly what was coming.  I cried a lot, laughed out loud and even shrieked a bit.  Just loved the movie.

Now, I have to add this part in – my husband saw it with me.  He is not a reader and has not read the books and actually fell asleep during the movie.  He thought it was too long and there was too much talking.  Gasp!  Yes I am considering replacing him ;-)

Marked

I leave on a 6 day vacation to the country tomorrow, which means no email, or computers or blogging.  I am halfway through the House of Night series by PC and Kristin Cast.  I have read 2 of 5 books and have the next three already packed for my week of reading.  Are they as amazing as Twilight?  No, but I am enjoying them immensely.  Sometimes it is just refreshing to rip through a fun book about hot vampires and powerful teenage girls.  So I leave you to spend a week with Zoey Redbird and Erik Night and the rest of the House of Night crew…enjoy!  Let me know if you have read them and what you think.

Happy 8th Birthday!

My wonderful boy turns 8 today.  It is so hard to believe that my baby is 8 whole years old.  I can’ t believe it has been so long since I held him as a tiny little newborn.  He captured my heart from the very first instant, and is to this day my captor.  His sweetness and sensitivity are unparalleled.  His brilliance is inspiring.  He is completely his own person, absolutely marching to his own drum and following his true path.  Sometimes this leads to stalemates, but in the big picture, it is pretty cool.  I am so proud of my sweet boy!  I love you and Happy Birthday!!

Wade Robson

I want to be Wade Robson when I grow up…or at least know him.  He is so completely quirky, brilliant and fun.  I love to watch his choreography.  On SYTYCD last night I was just lamenting that we had only seen him once so far this season, when along came a new Wade Robson routine!  It was totally brilliant.  The way he had the dancers move, so that they were almost like cartoon characters, and they were so fluid, yet so sharp.  It was inspirational.  He really is the most amazing choreographer, and any dancer must just be soooo thrilled to learn he is going to be working with Wade.  Wade, you are my hero.

Not a great soccer mom

So last night my husband had to work late and I had to bring my son to his soccer game.  I will say it straight – it was the first time I had gone out to see him play soccer this season.  I was pretty excited to see him play, until we got there.  When we left the house it was sunny and warm.  When we got to the soccer field it was grey and stormy looking and a cool wind had come up.  Not promising.  Within seconds of the game start time the rain started to come down.  Sadly you could see blue sky in the distance and it appeared to only be pouring over our soccer field.  The boys loved it.  This mother did not.  I was freezing and soaking wet by the end of it.  I am not sure when I will get out to another game.  And hello?  where exactly is our summer weather?  Because this is NOT it.
