New London Fog at Starbucks

I don’t want to toot my own horn or call myself a trend setter or anything but listen to this…

I have been drinking my daily Earl Grey Tea Misto for over a year now, and January 3 I went into Starbucks and ordered it as I usually do.  The cashier punched it in and gave me my total of $4.74.  I looked at her and said “I don’t think you got that right, it is usually $2.31?”  And she smiled that winning saleswoman’s smile and said “Oh I got it right!  We have a new fabulous loose leaf earl grey tea bag and now your drink is called a LONDON FOG.  It is just terrific!”  Big smile.  I looked at her and said, “Seriously?  You have a new tea bag that costs $2.50 more than the old tea bag?  But it is the same drink?  Can I still have it with the old tea bag?”  She reluctantly agreed and I was able to have my old normal drink, but now every time I go to Starbucks I have to combat the London Fog upsell.  I find it incredibly hard to understand why I would want to pay $2.50 more for something new that I have been drinking happily for a while now.  At my regular Starbucks, my guys brought out the fancy tea bags so I could see how fancy they look.  (I was curious)  They are beautiful looking tea bags – all silky and pretty.  But I still would rather have two mugs of Earl Grey Tea Misto, than 1 mug of London Fog.  Call me crazy.  I wonder how long it will be until the old cheaper tea bags are discontinued?
